Cayce River Arts District in MICD

Recently, the Mayors' Institute on City Design (MICD) posted an article detailing the concept behind our Cayce River Arts District - a place that now is a thriving hub focused on small businesses, the arts, and improving the quality of life for residents with unique outdoor and interactive opportunities!

In 2015, Cayce’s Mayor Elise Partin was invited to participate in the prestigious Mayors Institute for City Design.  It was there she learned about “pre-vitalization” - the art of what’s possible. That effort to enliven the heart of the original downtown of our city came in the form of a street party, the Soiree on State, now an award winning regional event. Mayor Partin has consistently brought national level excellence and support to the City of Cayce.

Through these efforts, along with grant funding and numerous collaborative projects with local artists, the Cayce River Arts District went from a concept to a beautiful space that serves as a magnificent home for new businesses, such as Trini Lime Caribbean Cafe, Swatch Graphics, Piecewise Coffee Company, Dialed Bicycles Cayce, and others!

Mayor Partin and city leaders sparked a true renaissance for Cayce’s State Street through the creation of the Cayce River Arts District giving an important part of our town a second life.

"If I hadn't brought this project to MICD, I have no doubts this area would still be shuttered- or someone with a lot of resources may have taken on the risk of a larger-scale redevelopment, but it wouldn't be the great mix of small business and vibrant community we have now." - Mayor Elise Partin, 2015 MICD South
