What's Next? Statement on Neighborhood Wal-Mart Grocery Store in the City of Cayce

On May 18, 2015, the City of Cayce Planning Commission discussed and approved the site plans submitted by Bright-Meyers Development Corp for a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Grocery Store and gas station. The site is located at the corner of Knox Abbott Drive and Charleston Highway. The plans must also be sent to the County for them to approve the stormwater plan. Then, the developer can purchase building permits to start construction on the project. The portion of the plan pertaining to the intersection improvements will require final approval from the SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT).  A traffic study has been conducted and submitted to the SCDOT.

While the 40,000 square foot Neighborhood Grocery Store is much smaller than the 160,000 square foot Wal-Mart Superstore; it is still projected to bring 95 new jobs to the area.

Mayor Elise Partin stated, “We know based on data and number of stores in Cayce that we are in need of another grocery store. This will provide citizens with another option. The design will also be in keeping with the new construction on Knox Abbott Drive.”
