Cayce Historical Museum Reveals Doolittle Raiders Exhibit in Honor of 75th Anniversary

CAYCE HISTORICAL MUSEUM:  On Tuesday April 18, 2017, the museum revealed its newly renovated exhibit featuring Doolittle’s Raid and the Columbia Army Air Base in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. The Columbia Army Air Base – now the Columbia Metropolitan Airport – was acquired by the War Department in 1941 and was established for training B-25 crews, including the Doolittle Raiders.

The new exhibit features photographs of B-25’s training at the Columbia Army Air Base and over the Columbia area, photos from the Doolittle Raid, WWII artifacts and footage, and an oral history from Col. Horace “Sally” Crouch, a Doolittle Raider and South Carolina native.

This exhibit is part of a larger project to modernize exhibits, and increase the museum’s relevance within the community. Special thanks is given to the Richland County Library and Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum for helping make this exhibit possible!
