The Congaree Bluegrass Festival, presented by the City of Cayce and the Cayce Events Committee, expanded in 2016 to a two day event featuring Gospel Bluegrass Music on Sunday. The Congaree Bluegrass Festival has a new home at the Historic Columbia Speedway which features unlimited free parking and a beautiful space large enough that the event never feels too crowded.
The 10th Annual Congaree Bluegrass Festival will feature top-quality bluegrass bands including the Sugarloaf Mountain Boys who performed at our very first festival ten years ago. There will also be a free children’s area with bouncy houses and hay rides around the historic track. There will be the always popular festival food, Cloggers, a car cruise in and much more making it suitable for families of all ages. This two day event will give you the best in bluegrass music and Sunday is the Gospel Bluegrass Gathering, which will be an afternoon filled with great food and Gospel music.
Headlining Saturday is The Crowe Brothers. The Crowe Brothers’ music career has spanned more than four decades and a dozen recording projects. They have received recognition from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) with awards for Best Bluegrass Rhythm Guitar and Best Instrumental Band, and were nominated by International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for Emerging Artist of the Year. In 2009, their recording of “Cindy Mae” (written by Cody Shuler), went number one on several bluegrass charts. In 2011, “He Could Pick the Hound” (penned by Steve Watts), also reached the number one slot. The other acts sharing the stage on Saturday include Deeper Shades of Blue, Sugarloaf Mountain Boys, Tom Coolidge and the Leftovers and The Capital City Cloggers. Sunday, the stage will feature the bands The King James Boys, Tugalo Holler and Golden Valley Crusaders all performing traditional gospel bluegrass music.
